The Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day), observed on April 4th this year, is a traditional Chinese holiday with over 2,500 years of history. Originating from the ancient Cold Food Festival, it honors ancestors and celebrates the arrival of spring.

During Qingming, families visit ancestors’ graves to clean tombstones, offer flowers, and pay respects. Many also enjoy spring outings, fly kites, or eat Qingming snacks like qingtuan (green rice cakes). As an eco-friendly alternative to burning paper, some now use online memorials or plant trees.
